The Wallowa Union Railroad Authority will hold a public meeting in Elgin, Oregon on July 9, 2014, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Elgin Depot.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider the trail feasibility study scope of work that will be presented by Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and Eastern Oregon University.

The public is encouraged to attend this important meeting to show the Wallowa Union Railroad Authority the extent of public support for the potential trail.

The Wallowa Union Historic Trail Consortium activated its website,  and Face Book page,, this week.

The website offers information about the plans to prepare a trail feasibility study, with an explanation of the planned public involvement process. Public involvement opportunities will include stakeholder interviews, two series of public meetings, an opinion survey, and a meeting with the Wallowa Union Railroad Authority to present the findings and recommendations of the feasibility study.  The Railroad Authority will determine, based on the study findings and recommendations, whether to move to the master planning phase.
