"Building Wealth in Local Communities: A program for change" is a community-based process for attaining short- and long-term sources of revenue and employment by identifying local resources, engaging local initiative and talent, and designing a locally endorsed and sponsored vision of community quality of life. This process can rebuild wealth for individuals, businesses, communities, and governments through a community visioning process focusing on the triple-bottom line: people, profit, and planet.

On Friday, March 5th, Oregon Rural Action will be hosting a workshop featuring a panel discussion with experienced Farm to School members (schools and growers) and the Oregon Department of Education. The day is divided into two portions, with the morning focused on opportunities and challenges for producers interested in selling to schools, and the afternoon on opportunities and challenges for schools and how schools and community members can work together on a Farm to School Program.

Registration is open for the 10th annual Oregon Small Farms Conference on Feb. 27 in Corvallis. The daylong event is geared toward farmers, agriculture professionals, food policy advocates and managers of farmers markets. Mas Masumoto, an author and organic farmer from California, will give the opening speech in which he'll talk about the challenges facing small farmers, the role they play and new relationships around food.

Public Meeting: Proposed actions on Hanford cleanup (Hoke Union Bldg, Eastern Oregon University, La Grande, OR, from Feb 22, 2010 06:00 PM to Feb 22, 2010 09:00 PM)
Because significant long-term environmental impacts are possible at Hanford from proposed actions, the Department of Energy is hosting a public meeting in La Grande to present information on its EIS and accept public comment.

Scott Nichols, President of BioHeatUSA and co-founder of Biomass Thermal Energy Council, will speak and provide an overview of available wood heating boiler technology, and discuss why, now so more than ever, heating with wood, can drive down heating costs.
