On January 29th at 6:30 pm the Blue Mountain Chapter will be sponsoring a film showing of "Food, Inc." in the Community Room of the La Grande Public Library.
This thought-provoking documentary explores the intersection between the high degree of mechanization in the nation's food industry and its effects on consumer health, farmers' livelihoods, workers' safety, and the environment. Featuring interviews with Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma), and Joel Salatin (Polyface Farms), as the official synopsis suggests, the film "reveals surprising - and often shocking - truths about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here."
Come see the movie and meet some of our local farmers that are regular vendors at the La Grande Farmers Market. Attendees will have a chance to hear about local work being done for a sustainable food system, a Farm to School program, community gardens, as well as legislative work to protect our local food growers and processors right here in Union County. The event is free and open to the public. Bring a friend!
