SNAP

The La Grande Farmers Market accepts Oregon Trail Cards.  SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is the new name of the Oregon food stamp program. The new name represents the program’s focus on nutrition and putting healthy food within reach for low-income Oregonians. All paper food stamps have officially been phased out since 1988.   The benefits are now distributed through the state’s electronics benefits transfer (EBT) system which allows recipients to obtain their benefits by using an “Oregon Trail Card”.  The Oregon Trail Cards can be used for a wider range of foods as well as vegetable plant starts and seeds (no flowers or ornamentals).  This includes any fresh, frozen, or canned food items such as fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat, dairy, eggs, nuts, dried foods, and cool prepared foods (no hot foods allowed).

"The Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program (FDNP)

"The Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program (FDNP) is a state-administered federal nutrition program that will bring over one million dollars into the hands of Oregon farmers in 2009."

"Farm Direct Nutrition Program funds go to low-income nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and young children enrolled in the WIC (Women Infants & Children) program and to eligible low-income seniors (identified by Seniors & People with Disabilities Division as of April 1, 2009). Eligible clients will receive these funds as checks in a fixed amount (amount to be determined), which they will use from May 22 - October 23, 2010 specifically to purchase locally produced fresh fruit and vegetables directly from authorized farmers at farm stands and farmers markets."
