Plant Science/Horticulture Class
La Grande High School Plant Science/Horticulture class is producing plants for sale. Students have been planting, transplanting & nurturing more than 35 varieties of tomatoes, over 30 varieties of peppers, a variety of vegetable starts and a wide selection of herbs. The tomato varieties range from ultra early hybrids, cherry type, canning, slicing, and heirlooms. The peppers include bell type, sweet, hot, canning heirloom and very, very hot. The students are each responsible for at least one variety of tomatoes and peppers. We have cabbages, lettuce, okra, onions, and spinaches. The herbs include three types of basil, cilantro, chives rosemary, thyme and dill. The other vegetables and herbs are raised cooperatively by the class. While we do have a limited selection of bedding plants and flowers, Imbler High School, Union High School and La Grande Middle School have a wide selection of flowers and hanging baskets.
