Shoto FarmShoto Farm is located at Cricket Flats, northeast of Elgin, on the breaks between the Grande Ronde and Minam-Wallowa rivers at an elevation of approximately 3,500 ft. A harsh environment with extremes of hot and cold, drought and wind, leads to herbs with concentrated flavor. Ecological farming practices encourage a vibrant web of pollinators, plants, wildlife, wildflowers, and farm products. Products: mostly perennial herbs and flowers, some bush and tree fruit. Specialty antique roses and lavender, peonies and iris. Growing philosophy: building living soil and improving the habitat for pollinators and wildlife. No chemicals. "An orchard to live in." Faming Inspirations: Masanobu Fukuoka, Bill Mollison, Ron England, Mark Musick ... and so many more amazing farmers, growers, and researchers. Ps. Shoto is a Japanese word meaning both "waving pine" (we are predominantly Ponderosa pine habitat) and "short sword".
