Green, Inc.: Feed-In Tariffs Contemplated in the U.S.

The New York Times blog Green, Inc. reports that the United States is beginning to look at Feed-In Tariffs as a method of promoting renewable energy development.

Writing for the New York Times blog Green, Inc., Kate Galbraith reports that the United States is beginning to look at Feed-In Tariffs as a method of promoting renewable energy development. While this method is common in Europe, the United States has more typically used tax incentives and renewable portfolio standards to encourage development of green energy.

Galbraith writes, "some clean-energy advocates have long claimed that the high, fixed-rate payments associated with feed-in tariffs, which help cover the comparatively higher cost of renewables production, are more likely to get the alternative energy industry off the ground."

Of interest to those living in the West, the Washington state legislature is considering a bill that would make way for feed-in tariffs. It is also suggested that Oregon Governor Kulongoski supports the concept.
