LA Times: Steven Chu impresses energy committee
The nominee for Energy secretary signals his support for a variety of energy alternatives -- including coal -- to America's dependence on imported oil.
The Los Angeles Times reports that members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee were impressed by Steven Chu during his confirmation hearing on January 13th. A scientist, administrator and Nobel Prize winner, Chu had been nominated by President-Elect Obama in December to serve as Secretary of the Department of Energy.
During the hearings Chu stressed the need to address global warming and move away from dependence on foreign oil. In order to do so he proposed a package of domestic energy sources with greater emphasis placed on renewables (such as solar) and energy efficiency policies.
