Oregon Rural Action seeks to expand our team of dedicated staff and add two interns in 2012. Please see the below short job descriptions and links to full job descriptions below.

 

Community Organizers

Oregon Rural Action seeks a full-time organizer in La Grande and either one full-time organizer for Baker and Malheur county chapters or two part-time organizers, one in Baker County and one in Malheur County. 

Community Organizer responsibilities include recruiting members, maximizing member involvement, developing new leaders, working with people to execute sound strategies, empowering people to speak for themselves, and grassroots fundraising. We are looking for both part-time and full-time community organizers.  Salary for full-time and hourly wage for part-time is competitive.  Health insurance, three weeks vacation; sabbatical program after five years of employment available for full-time staff. 

Qualifications: Commitment to Oregon Rural Action’s mission and values, ability to get along with people from diverse backgrounds, good listener and communicator, smart worker.  Also helpful: experience (either as a volunteer or staff) with a nonprofit organization working for social change; Spanish language skills; experience in a political campaign; familiarity with the public policy process; familiarity with rural communities, people and issues; experience with the media and fundraising; experience running a business and marketing.

Administrative Assistant & Membership Manager

Oregon Rural Action seeks part-time (20 hours per week) Administrative Assistant & Membership Manager based in La Grande, Oregon. Oregon Rural Action is a grassroots organization that brings people together to address issues, find solutions that work and build strong communities.  Responsibilities include membership and database management, financial tracking and management, grant tracking and assistance, mailing and answering the phone, office management and general administrative assistance. Hourly wage for part-time is competitive and employee health insurance is provided. 

Qualifications: Commitment to Oregon Rural Action’s mission and values, ability to get along with people from diverse backgrounds, good listener and communicator, smart worker.  Experience (either as a volunteer or staff) with a nonprofit organization; experience with the media and fundraising; experience running a business and marketing are important and applicable. Administrative Assistant must be highly organized, detail oriented, deadline sensitive, very capable using computers and databases and able to make cold calls and connect with people. S/he must be familiar with Microsoft Office Systems, Quickbooks, database systems and Mac operating systems.

Internships

Oregon Rural Action seeks a self-motivated, curious and organized person to fill our unpaid Local Food & Agriculture and Sustainable Energy internship positions (2) from January through March 2012 or for at least nine weeks. This internship position will give the intern an opportunity to learn more about community organizations, community organizing, the non-profit sector and local issues as well as make a difference in the community. Oregon Rural Action has a young team of staff who are eager to work with interns and share knowledge and experience in our high-energy, creative, mission-driven work environment.

 The internship will require three to five hours per week from the first week of January through the third week of March. The internship could start in December if the intern is interested in starting early. ORA is willing to work with the intern to help them fulfill credit or academic requirements.
