USDA Proposes New Rule

for Animal ID

Tagged Cow2

Having dropped the plans for the National

Animal Identification System (NAIS), USDA

is back again for Round Two. The agency

has proposed a rule that would require livestock

producers, related business, and state agencies

to incur significant expense tracking animals that

cross state lines-- all for the benefit of large

Agribusiness.

Read how such a rule affects your horses,

cattle, poultry, sheep, goats and hogs and

submit a comment before the 9th! The

deadline for public comment has

passed.

THE LAST MOUNTAIN

 The Last Mountain Movie

In cooperation with the Eastern Oregon

Film Festival, ORA sponsored the showing

of the extraordinary film The Last Mountain

on October 21, 2011.

The film communicates the battle over

protecting our health and environment

from the destructive power of Big Coal.

"The mining and burning of coal is at the

epicenter of America's struggle to balance

its energy needs with environmental concerns. Nowhere is that concern greater than in

Coal River Valley, West Virginia, where a

small but passionate group of ordinary citizens are trying to stop Big Coal corporations, like

Massey Energy, from continuing the

devastating practice of Mountain Top

Removal." - The Last Mountain

New Report Points Toward a Sustainable Future for the U.S. Power Sector

WORC joined with the Civil Society Institute in releasing Synapse Report, Toward a Sustainable Future for the U.S. Power Sector: Beyond Business as Usual, a report outlining a realistic path for a cleaner and less expensive energy future. The report also finds that Westerners would likely see lower electricity costs by 2020 if the U.S. adopts a long-term strategy to replace coal-fire electricity with energy efficiency and renewable resources.
