Live Auction

1. Canoe Trip to the Catherine Creek Heron Rookery
With Bill Whitaker and Nella Parks

Starting bid $150

Between May and June every year Great Blue Herons and cormorants nest communally in what is called a rookery. A local rookery is located in the tops of willow trees on the banks of Catherine Creek. Seeing four-foot tall birds in huge nests nursing loud and gangly young is quite a sight! 3-4 people are invited to a 2.5 hour canoe trip to see the rookery as well as beaver, songbirds, hawks, owls, ducks, geese and many other waterfowl.

Seeing this wildlife while gliding silently along the banks of the creek is an amazing experience. Canoes, guides, binoculars, snacks and shuttle transport provided.

3. Avitours Birding Adventure

Special thanks to Trent Bray of the Bobolink

Starting bid $125

NE Oregon is a unique place. Its lands are dominated by contrasting rugged mountains and vast open grasslands. It is these diverse habitats that lend to the region’s elevated diversity in avifauna. Over 300 species of birds have been documented from NE Oregon, and therefore make it a wonderful place for continued exploration. Some specialty species found here include: Spruce Grouse, Gray Partridge, Boreal Owl, Great Gray Owl, Veery, Bohemian Waxwing, Pine Grosbeak, Gray-crowned Rosy-finch, Common Redpoll, American Tree Sparrow and Snow Bunting.

Due to the timing of migration of breeding and wintering birds, two trips are really needed to fully appreciate all that NE Oregon has to offer. Excursions are typically customized for the participant’s target species and schedule. Base of operations are out of La Grande, OR, with Trent Bray as leader.

This donated trip is a half day (6 hours) for two participants. Additional participants may be added for a nominal fee, though 8 participants maximum.
